SURGICAL PROCEDURES
· Duodenal Switch Gastric Balloon
· Gastric Bypass
· Gastric Sleeve

Bariatric (weight loss) surgery includes a variety of procedures performed on both men and women who are obese. Weight loss is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach with an implanted medical device (gastric banding) or also through the removal of a portion of the stomach. Or also by resecting and re-routing the small intestines to a small stomach pouch. Studies have shown the procedures cause significant long-term loss of weight, recovery from diabetes, improvement in cardiovascular risk factors and a reduction in mortality of 23% from 40%.

SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Duodenal Switch
The duodenal switch (DS) procedure, also known as biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS) or gastric reduction duodenal switches (GRDS).

The objective of this process is to reduce the amount of time the body has to capture calories from the food in the small intestine and to selectively limit the absorption of fat. As a result, after surgery, these patients only absorb approximately 20% of the fat they intake.

Gastric Balloon
Gastric balloons are used to reduce the size of the stomach, and the patient’s appetite. This removable device is not permanent like gastric bypass, yet it still assists in a patient’s quest for extreme weight loss.

Gastric Bypass
Gastric Bypass procedures (GBP) are any of a group of the same operations that first divides the stomach into a small upper pouch and a much larger lower “remnant” pouch and then re-arranges the small intestine to connect to both.

Gastric Sleeve
Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which the stomach is reduced to around 25% of its original size, by surgical removal of a large portion of the stomach , following the major curve. The open edges are then attached together (often with surgical staples) to form a sleeve or tube with a banana shape. The procedure reduces the size of the stomach permanently. The procedure is performed laparoscopically and cannot be undone.
